    Take Art
    Tuesday, January 27 2004 @ 03:44 PM GMT
    Author: Newnum Views: 51

Need to express youself in a different way?

Then why not take one (or both!) of the exciting art classes due to start later in February at Newnum Art in Worthing?

Two separate evening courses in water colour and acrylics begin on February 23 and 24 respectively.

Watercolour tutor, Christine Forbes, has a background in drama and fashion design, she has been teaching for five years and is a recent Fine Art (BA) graduate of Northbrook College where she is now teaching. She also teaches at Ford Open Prison and runs regular art workshops for Worthing Museum/ Art Gallery.

Steve Carroll, local artist and graphic designer - not to mention one of the organisers of the Save Worthing Museum campaign - leads the now well established acrylics course. Not only does Steve cover many aspects of the use of this medium, but also encourages students to explore the nature of creatvity and ways to overcome self-doubt and gain confidence to pursue their own creative styles.

Details of both courses are on the Artists and Makers events calendar.

    Eyeful - Karen Moser
    Sunday, January 25 2004 @ 05:49 PM GMT
    Author: Karen Moser Views: 56

'Eyeful' consists of visually striking, colourful and idiosyncratic works by a variety of artists, combining high art with low culture, and local craft with a tradition of visual narrative and oral storytelling. These works of art vary from the highly literal to the seemingly abstract.

Eyeful runs from 6th February - 20th March at the Millais Gallery, Southampton and features the artists Pete Benham, Neill Kidgell, Karen Moser and Neal Rock.

The Private View is on 5th February from 6 - 8 pm. If you would like an invitation please email me (Karen) on [email protected] with you postal address and I will ensure that you receive one.

    Romantic Nudes in Valentine's Exhibition
    Wednesday, January 21 2004 @ 04:38 PM GMT
    Author: Dan Views: 478

Valentine's Weekend sees the opening of Life Dance, a new exhibition by acclaimed artist David Cottingham.

For his first Worthing exhibition, which takes place at The Acacia guesthouse & gallery, David exhibits over forty figurative drawings and paintings, all done from life. The romantic nudes are in a wide range of styles and media, and include line drawings in ink and chalk, and studies in mixed media. He says, "Inspired by music, dance, photography and sculpture, these abstracted and complex paintings celebrate the body and express movement of the human figure".

RAGs artistic director Dan Thompson invited David to exhibit at the South Coast venue.  Its becoming a tradition that we add little romance to the arts calendar with our Valentines weekend exhibitions, Dan says, and were pleased to have such an accomplished artist showing with us this year.

    Education, Education, Education!
    Monday, January 05 2004 @ 10:15 AM GMT
    Author: SteveC Views: 249

We have been overwhelmed by the response to the campaign to save Worthing Museum & Art Gallery. Most Worthing residents do not hesitate to sign the petition against its closure.

Among those who react with the greatest horror are the parents of school-aged children. For them it is an excellent resource in or out of term-time, every child in Worthing looks forward to a school visit. It provides education, cultural stimulation and contemporary arts events. To lose it would not just be a great sentimental loss, but would create a gap in our children's educational development.
