| Description: |
Curated by Julie Everton and New Writing South this unique, six month project offers playwrights in the south the chance to belong to a supportive and nurturing workshop group. Regularly meeting in Brightons Theatre Royal, members of the group will develop either a new play or work on an existing draft.
The project puts character at the heart of drama.
Each playwright will develop their own piece of drama, and draw inspiration and guidance from a clear and structured process. We will explore premise, plot, structure, conflict, scene writing, pace, dialogue, entrances and exits. In addition there will be guest sessions from leading practitioners - actors, directors, set designers; a required reading list of plays and theatre visits. Tickets have been reserved at Theatre Royal, Brighton for WAITING FOR GODOT starring Sir Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart and for BRIEF ENCOUNTER (Knee High Theatre).
We hope that this experience will arm writers with new tools and approaches to their work and increased confidence in their abilities.
Julie Evertons professional life encompasses writing, teaching, script editing and coaching. Her first play, PIG IN A POKE, won the Royal Court Young Writers Festival. She then won a writers bursary from the National Theatre Studio, and wrote five other plays for stage, before moving into screenwriting. She was chosen to participate in the BBCs New Writers for Drama Series in 2002 and wrote sketches for BBC Schools, and for the relaunched daytime soap CROSSROADS. She currently teaches the Film Councils Introduction to Screenwriting course and works as a professional script editor for feature films.
Playwrights will be expected to come to the first session with a starting point.
