Following the success of the 'We Love You!' Poetry Competition in 2004, Worthing Arts Council have decided to do it all again on 11th February 06.
Keeping in line with our Valentine's weekend idea, this time the poem will be entitled 'It makes Me Smile' or 'It Made Me Smile'. It can be any style and length up to 40 lines.
All entries must be received at Worthing Town Hall by mid-day on 14th December 2005. Click 'read more' for rules and conditions.
Children�s Classes: Rules and Conditions
1. The poem must be the child�s work, unpublished and can be typed or neatly handwritten.
2. The child�s age and school year only will appear on the front of the page and name, address and contact phone number on the back. If more than one page, use one side of paper only and put details on BOTH pages.
3. Age categories � School years 1-7 and 8-11 in 05/06 academic year. At least two prizes will be awarded in each age group.
4. Poems should not be illustrated, unless this forms an intrinsic part of the work, but illustrated versions of the poems shortlisted can be submitted later for display.
5. There is no entry fee. We will receive entries from individuals or batch entries from schools. Whilst we cannot return entries by post, these will be made available for collection after the event. Batch entries should each bear the school name on the back.
6. Entrants should be made aware of the event date (at 3pm), and that shortlisted poets will be asked to read their work (coaching will be available this time!!). Actors will be available where a child cnnot be persuaded to perform or cannot attend.
7. Splash FM are offering two winners a chance to visit their studio and possibly read on air. If a winner is not available on the transmission date, an alternative prize will be given and the Splash prize offered to another winner.
8. Entries will be judged by a panel of three published writers whose decision is final.
Adult categories:
1. Writen:
The title, closing date and poem criteria are the same as for the children. The adult event will be in the evening of 11th February 2006.
Rules and Conditions:
1. The poem must be the author�s own work, and can be typed or neatly handwritten.
2. The writer�s name, address and contact phone number should appear on he back. If more than one page, use one side of paper only and details on BOTH pages.
3. There is no entry fee. Whilst we cannot return entries by post, these will be made available for collection after the event.
4. Entrants should be made aware of the event date (at 7pm), and that shortlisted poets will be asked to read their work. Actors will be available where a writer cannot be persuaded to perform or cannot attend.
5. At least two prizes will be awarded, including a meal for two at Northbrook�s Arundel Room Restaurant. Some shortlisted poems may be used for display at the event
6. Entries will be judged by a panel of three published writers whose decision is final.
2. Poetry in Art
An original poem, rules and conditions as above, but to be presented in 2D or 3D art/craft form. All judges are qualified in a range of arts specialisms, but we must emphasise that initial judging will be of the poem itself.

Where items are larger than A4 or cannot be posted, an entry application should be submitted as early as possible to enable judging arrangements to be made. Please be aware that special display arrangements may have to be made.
The event will take place at The Barn, Field Place, The Boulevard, (nr Durrington Station) Worthing in the presence of His Worship The Mayor.
