Theres A Lot Going On thats the message from Worthing Arts Council (WAC) this autumn. And thanks to the groups new directory, its even easier to find out more information about arts activities in the town.
From weekly meetings of Worthing Philharmonic Choir to the towns annual Music Festival, and from music workshops with Rhythm Inc. to Egyptian dance from Ankhenespepi, the leaflet highlights a diverse range of opportunities to participate in the arts.
Theres literature with West Sussex Writers Club, and fine arts from Acorn Painting Club. Theres open air Shakespeare from Rainbow Theatre, innovative performance from Fairground Booth Theatre Company and marionettes from The Fairytale Theatre Company.
And with Artsworkers support for arts organisations, RAGs service for artists and makers, Palmer Business & Medias rights and royalties consultancy, and Inspiration by Designs graphic services, theres a lot of information for the towns fast growing creative business sector, too.
The leaflet has been produced by WAC, which provides a space for arts groups, organisations, clubs and societies to share ideas, create partnerships, access funding and work together to raise the profile of the arts in the town. One member, the Textile Arts Forum, represents the interests of over a dozen local groups with more than 500 members, and Worthing Arts Council as a whole represents an estimated 5000 people.
After helping to organise the first Worthing Arts Conference in March this year, WAC was keen to address calls from conference visitors for a more joined up approach to the arts locally. The leaflet aims to make it easier for groups to work together, and for people to find out what opportunities are available.
It was clear from the Worthing Creative Conference that the town has a vibrant, growing arts community, says WACs chair, Jo Hutchinson, and that whats needed now is to bring people together we hope the directory will help to achieve this aim.
The directory contains information about more than 15 important local arts groups, theatre companies and creative businesses. It is available free of charge from libraries, Worthing Museum and Art Gallery, Tourist Information Centres, the towns only dedicated art shop Newnum Art in Oxford Road and from the offices of 107.7 Splash FM.
