Valentine's Day Love Music -Romantic afternoon from young classical stars
Worthing’s County Youth Orchestra will be joined by Worthing Symphony Orchestra’s conductor John Gibbonsas they present a sumptuous feast of romantic music for a Valentine concert.
The young Russian soprano Anna Gorbachyova and Italian tenor Dominic Natoli will combine their voices to bring life to some of the most beautiful romantic music of all time.
Dominic’s recent performances include Verdi’s Requiem with Gustavo Dudamel, performances on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night and the role of Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly for the Danish National Opera. Anna is studying for a Masters at the Royal College of Music and has won prizes from the college a well as in the Siena International Opera Singing Competition and Antonin Dvorak Vocal Competition.
The Valentine concert will include Rossini’s Overture to Tancredi, a work filled with unrequited love, pursued amid the backdrop of warring Syracuse . Anna and Dominic will take on the vocally challenging roles of exiled soldier Tancredi and the daughter of a noble family, Amenaide, who loves the soldier but her secret letter begging him to return falls into the wrong hands with tragic results.
The tragic story will be followed by Donizetti’s arias and duets from L’Elisir d’amore and the love duet from La Boheme which focuses on the fledgling love between Mimi and Rodolfo – roles which have been played by some of the greatest classical singers in history such as Montserrat Caballé and Plácido Domingo. The concert will conclude with Delius’ emotional intermezzo, The Walk to the Paradise Garden from A Village Romeo and Juliet and excerpts from Khachaturian’s Spartacus including the famous theme used for television’s Onedin Line.
The afternoon promises to be an inspirational concert by some of Sussex’s youngest and most talented musicians whose performances of such emotive works will be the perfect addition to Valentine’s Day.
