Worthing Contemporary Gallery Preview For Artists
A new contemporary art gallery, showcasing the best Sussex artists and makers alongside special guests, will open for artists to see the space next week. The public opening is planned for 23rd May.
The Dome Gallery will be on the ground floor of Worthing's landmark Dome, a Grade 2* Listed early 'Kursaal' or entertainment complex. The architect-designed gallery will be fitted with a professional hanging system, lighting and a range of illuminated plinths.
The front of the gallery will focus on small, affordable work, and the gallery are looking for ceramics, jewellery, prints, textile arts - and of course, being in a seafront location, postcards. There will be space for editions and multiples, including artist-made books, cards, toys and quirky gifts. All work will initially be stocked on a sale-or-return basis with the gallery taking a commission.
The second space is 'The Rainbow Gallery' aiming to offer high-quality work contemporary work which parents, friends and relatives can buy as an investment and as a unique gift for children.
The main space will be available for paintings, photography, prints or other wall-mounted work; sculpture, ceramics and 3D work can be displayed on plinths. Some work can also be suspended from the ceiling. Work will either be stocked on a sale-or-return basis with the gallery taking a commission, or space can be hired.
The Dome Gallery will be open to artists next week, with the refurbishment and redecoration that's in progress on show, alongside architect's drawings of the finished gallery. The gallery will open to the public on Saturday 23rd May.
After the gallery is up and running, further spaces throughout the building will be made available for exhibition including some dramatic wallspaces and the eyecatching tower with its iconic domed roof.
Viewing is from 6.30-8.30pm on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th April - and gallery owners are inviting artists and makers to drop in to meet see the space, with either a portfolio (for large work) or some examples of work if possible.
