University Square in Coventry will be filled with music, dance, exhibitions and events in an event organised on a work experience placement.
The whole day has been produced by Fred Davidson, who is 15, and joined Imagineer Productions on a two weeks work experience, and instead of shadowing them, created the vision for the Perform Your Arts Out -Youth Arts Festival with a small group of young people from across Coventry.
There will be music from Satin Dolls, The Strikes, Thom Kirkpatrick and others. There will be street dance, theatre, DJ's, drumming, and exhibitions and events inside The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum. Alongside all this amazing free entertainment will be free face art, bindi, health advice, mhendi, hair braiding & threading, and a martial arts stall.During his placement Fred talked to Lee House, Events Co-ordinator for the council's Culture & Leisure section, went on some site visits to identify possible performance space, created a Marketing Strategy, put together an outline budget and submitted an application to Youth Opportunities fund for 33, 000 and was successful!
Fred is now looking forward to the culmination of months of hard work and organisation, when the festival comes to fruition on Saturday 8 August 11am - 7pm, in University Square. Programmes will be given out on the day to ensure visitors know what acts are appearing when.
This is the second of three events branded Celebrating Coventry, with the final one being on August 22, and subtitled "The Festival of Invention".
