Open air show kicks off On Location Film Festival
Worthing's excellent On Location Film Festival – now in its third year – got off to an excellent start with a free open air showing of Cinema Paradiso.
Row of seating outside the Connaught Theatre, with Union Place closed to traffic, saw a crowd of 150+ gather to watch Giuseppe Tornatore's award-winning 1988 tale of cinema projectionist Alfredo and his young protege Salvatore, set in a small Sicilian village.
Buoyed by wine from Barefoot Wines and olives from Coast Cafe, there was a buzz of expectancy as the film was projected in 'Paradiso' style onto the wall of the post office opposite the Connaught.
Sound and picture quality were fine, the rain stayed away and while it did get a bit nippy late on, the audience were hugely appreciative and gave the showing a great round of applause at the end.
A interesting selection of films are lined up for this year's festival with Winged Migration at Arundel Wetlands Centre (23 September), Toy Story 3 at Ashdown Centre Nursery (25 September), Dawn of the Dead in the Guildbourne Centre (1 October) and Casablanca in the Persian Cocktail Bar, Grand Victoria Hotel (2 October).
All films feature added extras, or the chain to dress up – and even prizes for the best outfits. Head for http://onlocation2011.moonfruit.com for more details and to book.
