Youth and community groups in the South Abingdon area are looking for an artist to help them to create a series of pieces for a permanent installation on a public wall.
The pieces will replace existing artworks first created and installed by young people from The Abingdon Bridge (part of Abingdon Young Peoples Drop-in Centres) and the people of South Abingdon in 2002. The new works will reflect the dynamic make-up, interests, inspirations and aspirations of the local community.
Artists will develop and realise ideas for the art works in response to the consultation undertaken (by The Abingdon Bridge) with the local community, young people, potential project participants and project partners. They will then present the project-planning group with a design and detailed proposal for the art works to include advice, recommendations and proposed methods regarding prior preparation of the site, materials to be used in the production of the art works, installation of art works and health and safety considerations.
They will then work collaboratively with young people on the development and production of the artworks, ensuring the project includes at least ten one-day workshops (with groups specified by the planning group), and be responsible for overseeing the installation of the artwork within the agreed timeframe and budget.
