Where can you find video art and embroidery, contemporary crafts and creative writing, and open-air Shakespeare on the same bill as artists open houses, studios and gardens? Its all in the exciting line-up that has been confirmed for Julys Artists & Makers Festival.

The independent arts festival features artists exhibiting everything from contemporary textiles to painting, photography and sculpture. Open houses, studios and gardens in Bolney, Cowfold, Cuckfield, Horsham, Plummers Plain, Pulborough, Slinfold, Southwater, Warnham, and Worthing, will showcase the work of 200 contemporary artists, makers and designers many with a national profile for their work.

Other visual arts events include a Textile Arts Trail around Worthing town centre, a one-day textile arts festival, an open exhibition for photographers at Worthing Museum & Art Gallery and the annual show by Rusper Art Group.

And there will also be an exhibition of photography, film and video, new media art and installations. The event, titled COURAGE, will feature artists including Nathan Bean, Nina Reid and the festival's founder Dan Thompson. As part of COURAGE, there will also be a day of short films and video art, including work by students from Oak Grove College alongside professional artists, and a new alternative craft fair called I Made This.

Theatre and literature are well represented, with Rainbow Shakespeare staging A Winter's Tale and A Midsummer Night's Dream in Highdown Gardens, at the edge of the South Downs. West Sussex Writers' Club will hold the 21st Day For Writers, and New Writing South will end the festival with a Hootenanny Party,

It's another great line up, and we'll be adding a few guerrilla art events too, says founder Dan Thompson, making Artists & Makers the most exciting, independent arts festival in West Sussex.
