Samba and calypso in the street and impromptu poetry performances in a shopping centre will make sure you can't miss the Artists + Makers Festival if you're in Worthing this Saturday, 23rd June.
The annual arts festival takes place from 30th June - 22nd July, and includes a variety of events. But this Saturday two special events are set to stop shoppers.
At 11am in Montague Place, the Mayor of Worthing will officially launch the Artists + Makers Festival, accompanied by children dressed by The Costume Fairy and carnival band Celebration Samba.
From 11am-2pm, there will be a programme of samba workshops, calypso
performances, and simple drop-in art activities in Montague Place.
There will also be a last chance to sign The Worthing Society's
petition to save the Frink heads. Amongst the fun, the full Festival
guide will be available.
Meanwhile, the Artists + Makers Festival has taken over a shop in the
Guildbourne Centre - and as well as an exhibition of work by local
artists, there will spoken word and poetry from West Sussex Writers'
Club and some special guests this Saturday between 2-4pm, following on
from the Montague Place events.
The Artists + Makers Festival includes the Kaleidoscope of Threads at
the Heene Centre, Worthing; over 100 artists in thirty open houses and
studios across Worthing and Horsham District; open-air Shakespeare at
Highdown Gardens and other exhibitions.
