The Group: RAG was formed by Dan and Tracey Thompson in 2000. Initially based at 12 Miles West Studio in Worthing, the group now uses venues across South East England. RAG focus on supporting artists, makers, designers, writers and other creatives as they build careers - but also organise events and exhibitions.
RAG stands for Revolutionary Arts Group.
Artists & Makers Festival: Since 2001, RAG have organised an annual arts festival every July. Originally called The Art Trail and forming the fringe of the Worthing Arts Festival, it became fully independent when the Worthing Arts Festival came to an end in late-2003. Since July 2004, the event has been known as the Artists & Makers Festival, and has broadened to take in events in the Horsham District. More: The Artists & Makers Festival
Artists & Makers Exhibitions: RAG exhibitions are also staged under the Artists & Makers name, and showcase contemporary arts alongside a 21st century take on crafts. More: Artists & Makers at ... Exhibitions
Roundabout: In July 2003, RAG launched Roundabout - part '50s bohemian arts cafe, part '60s-style arts lab, but totally 21st Century. Roundabout events feature music and poetry alongside more experimental performance and time-based art. More: The Roundabout Club
COURAGE: In 2005, to celebrate RAG's 5th birthday, a new exhibition brand was launched. COURAGE celebrates installation, video and new media art - and each show has a guest curator - it's RAG's cutting edge. More: COURAGE
Controversy: RAG artists have been known to be controversial. Dan himself has upset Worthing's public with a series of live art events, and Nathan Bean caused a storm in the local papers with a video of male and female dolls catching fire. RAG artists are also highly collectable, with a good record of selling their work.
Coverage: RAG and their events have featured heavily in West Sussex local and regional publications; on BBC TV's South Today, Meridian News, The Community Channel and in BBC's Video Nation; and in Metro, Country Homes, Ceramics Review, A-N and others.
