Empty Shops Count

The Department of Communities & Local Government has announced funding to support 57 towns and cities and Arts Council England has said it is giving £500,000 through grants for the arts, with priority given to those same 57 places. But how did they choose which towns and cities, when nobody is keeping a central record of which places have the most empty spaces?

We want to find out which high streets have been hit hardest and we need your help! It's easy ... just follow these three steps.

• Please visit your town centre or a large local shopping parade. We want a place with twenty shops. 
• Count how many of those twenty shops are empty.
• Email dan@artistsandmakers.com with the street name, town and total empty shops as a mark out of twenty.

We'll use the results we gather to inform our work and make sure we can encourage more support where it's needed.
