Pop-up opportunity in Portsmouth

The Bionic Engineers are offering the opportunity to have a Pop-up Shop in the heart of Portsmouth’s shopping centre.

A group of young people have been working in Market Way since November to create space for artists, retail, cultural and community groups. These Pop-up Shops present an opportunity for anyone who can’t find or afford traditional commercial space in the city. This could be a way for you to start your own community project, launch your own shop or display as an artist.

Ugly with Theatre Akimbo

Theatre Akimbo are about to launch an exciting new project for 12 to 16 yr olds in Worthing called UGLY. Over the next 3 months they will run weekly workshops in which the participants will devise their own performance piece that will run alongside Theatre Akimbo’s reprise of their 2009 Arundel Festival triumph The Ugly One, by Marius von Mayenburg, which is due to run from 2nd to 5th June 2010 at St Paul’s Centre, Worthing.

The course of 14 specially devised workshops encourages the participants to explore the themes of Marius von Mayenburg’s scalpel sharp comedy, which lifts the bandages off our society and examines the perceptions of beauty, identity and individuality which lay beneath. Through the workshop environment they will tackle questions such as - How do we look? How do we think we look? How do peers judge our looks? Are looks important to achieve success? Can looks and image change your personality? How does the media affect us? How does cosmetic surgery affect us and those around us?
