Debbie Zoutewelle at Petworth House
A popular landscape artist is exhibiting at the prestigious Petworth House Gallery.
Debbie Zoutewelle, who staged sell-out shows at boutique Worthing guesthouse The Acacia in 2003 and 2004, is exhibiting her 2005 collection at the National Trust property. The paintings have been inspired by the landscape around Petworth House, and many feature materials such as mud and clay collected in the area.
Debbie first worked at Petworth as assistant to Andy Goldsworthy, on his Moonlit Path project. Her work blends traditional painting and more modern, environmental art practices.
“I am interested in the rough, honest and uncomplicated beauty of the ancient landscape,” she says, “and the use of materials from the land gives my painting an ephemeral nature, reflecting the passing of time and the seasons.”
Debbie trained in fine art at Northbrook College, and exhibited in London’s Brick lane last year. She is a member of arts collective RAG. This July, she opens her studio in Charlton Street, Steyning as part of RAG’s Artists & Makers Festival open studios scheme.
The Petworth House exhibition will be open from Saturday 18 to Wednesday 29 June. Petworth House is open Monday – Wednesday and Saturday - Sunday from 11am-5pm. Admission to the grounds and the gallery is £2 for adults, £1 for children.
