Type Museum to Close

It seems that the London Type Museum which hold a priceless collection of printing machinery, a working type foundry and the designs for thousands of fonts and dies from all the major british type foundrys is going to have to close due to a shortage of money and volunteers.

It may not be too late to save this resource and they need people to either contribute some time or money to help. They have suffered from a lack of funding as they are not considered worthy enough or sexy enough to be top of the list for either sponsors or government.

Still this collection documents the history of typography which is the story of the rise of civilisation, knowledge, ideas and democracy.

The last open day will on Wednesday 7th June and if you want to see the collection before it is dispersed (unless it can be saved ) go to the museum then.

It looks like the Open Day won't be taking place on the 7th as the Museum is locked and the staff have been laid off.

But do still express support to a new organisation:
Thanks to Jon Tutton for this info!
