TV stars lined up for October 2011 Worthing Comedy Festival

Tickets are expected to go fast for this year’s Worthing Comedy Festival from 13-16 October, with Zoe Lyons, Henning Wehn, Joanna Neary and Paul Kerensa on the bill.

Launched last year by the town’s family-friendly Matt’s Comedy Club, this year's festival features three gigs at club home The Dome Function Suite, which has already played host to top acts Milton Jones, Jo Enright, John Hegley and The Noise Next Door in the past three years.

First up on Thursday 13 October is Zoe Lyons (right), star of Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Mock The Week. Brighton-based Zoe is also a regular at the Komedia, and her engaging observational style will be a top draw. Support comes from the sparky observational humour of Danny Ward, fresh from great reviews at this year's Edinburgh Festival.

The ‘German comedy ambassador’ Henning Wehn (below left) tops the bill on Friday 14 October. Described as “side-splittingly funny” by The Scotsman, Henning has been making Teutonic waves on TV and radio this year. And support comes from superb character comedian Joanna Neary, whose TV appearances include That Mitchell & Webb Look, and Skins.

Finishing off the festival on Sunday 16 October is Paul Kerensa (below right), who has been carving a high quality reputation as both an inventive live performer and a writer on award-winning BBC sitcoms Miranda and Not Going Out. Support is Worthing-based newcomer Ben Salter, who has been building a growing reputation since his comedy debut last year, and took his first show to Edinburgh this year with Sam Savage: Love, Hate & Other Hobbies.

“We’re really looking forward to this year’s festival,” says Matt’s MC and organiser Russ Bravo. “There’s a real mix of styles in the acts we’ve booked and we’re confident they’ll deliver great entertainment for our audiences. And expect some extra acts to pop up unexpectedly ...”
