Films shown in perfect locations

A film festival with a difference is returning to Worthing in September for a second year. The On Location film festival runs from Friday 17th - Wednesday 29th September with the screening of five films in five perfect locations.

Romantic film fans will be taken back to the 1940s to enjoy tea and cakes while watching the classic film Brief Encounter in a waiting room on Worthing station, whilst fans of the Coen brothers can sip on a White Russian cocktail while watching The Big Lebowski at Worthing's bowling alley - with a free game of bowing after the film has finished!

The festival kicks off at Worthing Library, Richmond Road on Friday 17th September with film-goers sitting in the library aisles to watch Francois Truffaut's 1966 sci-film Fahrenheit 451: the story of a future society where all books are banned, and book-lovers are forced underground. All those attending will receive a free DVD/Blu-ray rental to celebrate the launch of Worthing Library's new Blu-ray collection. There is also an after-show party included in the price at Badgers Books, Gratwicke Road, where everyone who has watched the film can choose a paperback from the shelves for free. (£8.50 / £6.50 concessions including party, book and dvd rental). Starts 7.45pm.

On Sunday 19th September at AMF Bowling, film lovers can dress up as their favourite character from the Coen brothers' classic comedy The Big Lebowski, and enjoy the film, which will be projected on a giant screen over the bowling lanes. Everyone will receive a free game of bowling after the film has finished, as well as the Dude's trademark White Russian cocktail to sip while watching the film. (£12.50 / £10.50 concessions including a White Russian cocktail and game of bowling.) Starts 7.45pm.

Wednesday 22nd September promises to be a special night at Worthing Station. Step back in time for a screening of the classic black and white weepie Brief Encounter in a station waiting room, complete with 1940s-style tea and cakes. There is an optional 1940s dress code with prizes for the best dressed members of the audience. (£8.50 / £6.50 Concessions). Doors at 7.45pm.

Younger film fans are not forgotten, as Worthing Museum opens its doors after dusk for a screening of A Night At The Museum on Friday 24th. As the audience walk through the eerily quiet after-hours museum, they will be greeted by real characters from the past who come to life at night, who will lead them into the screening room in the Museum's gallery. Children are encourage to dress as a historical figure, and all those in costume will receive a free Horrible Histories book. There are two screenings - the first at 5.45pm, and a second screening at 8.30pm. Tickets are £7.50.

The final night on Wednesday 29th at 7.45pm promises to be a rocking affair at the Aintree (formerly the Brunswick), Thorn Road. For the screening of Oil City Confidential, the pub will be transformed into a vintage rock venue complete with 70s DJ and a stall selling records and memorabilia. Dr Feelgood Tribute act The Thames Delta Hogs will play a set to get everyone in the mood for Julian Temple's acclaimed documentary about the unlikely rise of blues band Dr Feelgood, and there is the after-film party with tunes from the era to bring the evening to a close. Tickets are £8.50 / £6.50 concessions.

Tickets for all events are available from Coast Cafe, Beach Parade, near Splash Point, Mooeys Cafe on Chapel Road (opposite the museum); the Tourist Information Centre on the seafront or by calling 01903 216937. Full details can be found on the website www.worthingfilmclub.com
