Catalyst Arts Spring Festival
Catalyst Arts, the educational organisation that is seeking to encourage a renaissance in the creative arts returns with its Spring Festival Arts School in April 2010.
Catalyst Arts brings its programme of Visual Arts workshops, Special Events, Community Music Day and Arts for the Disabled and Children’s Activities into public view as part of the Eastbourne Festival arts bonanza.
The Festival, now in its second year, runs from 3rd April – 25th April 2010, literally scattering arts projects, from Open House exhibitions to public participation events, across the Eastbourne cultural scene.
Catalyst Arts contribution to the Festival is built upon the successful experiences of last year’s Summer School. Visual Arts workshops are tutored by well-known local professional artists and teachers and are spread throughout the three week span of the Festival. Catalyst Arts and Compass Community Arts are collaborating in a programme of dance, drama and print-making workshops for people with disabilities.
A Community Music Day on 17th April gives the opportunity for anyone who has at some time wanted to sing in a choir or play in an orchestra to taste what that might be like. Victor Potter, Director of Music at St. Mary’s Old Town, and professional composer, an performer, Patrick Harrex will be working wonders with workshops for choral and orchestral groups with an opportunity to perform at the end of the day.
Two first-time visitors to Eastbourne bring an element of the unusual and poetic to the Catalyst Arts Spring Festival Arts School programme. The Colourful Curtis Tappenden, artist/illustrator and performance poet puts his artistic and poetic talents on show on April 19th and Jason Carter, internationally acknowledged Harp guitarist will be giving a showcase concert on April 22nd , performing an eclectic mix of Flamenco, Jazz and Classical guitar inspired by his travels through more than 8o countries. Both these events will take place at Community Wise in Ocklynge Road.
