Discover the dramatic world behind Worthing Theatres

If you have always wanted the chance to look behind the curtains at Worthing Theatres and find out what happens after the applause fades, now is your chance.

For one day only Worthing Theatres are opening their doors to give you full access to all three entertainment venues.  Simply visit the Assembly Hall or Pavilion and Connaught Theatres between 12pm and 4pm on Sunday January 31.  You can explore the historic buildings at leisure or if there is a specific area you would like to see, a member of staff will greet and guide you. Refreshments will be available throughout the day at the Pavilion and Connaught theatres.

There will be plenty to see at every theatre

Join the technical team in the control rooms to see how sound and lighting effects are created or take a trip backstage to see where stars have transformed themselves from actor to character in their dressing rooms and in the wings.

At the Connaught , you will be one of the first to try the brand new seats and walk on the just-laid carpets which were installed in preparation for the new spring drama season and 75th anniversary of live theatre at the venue.

At the Assembly Hall you will have the rare opportunity to see the mighty Wurlitzer theatre organ close-up.  It will be played throughout the day by one of the country’s top international organists, Richard Hills FRCO.  As well as demonstrating the musical prowess of the organ, he will be able to answer questions and show the more unusual features of the organ. Richard is a renowned presenter of light music, was the organ scholar at Exeter College Oxford and is resident at Rochester Cathedral, Portsmouth Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.

The Wurlitzer itself is the largest in Europe and is featured regularly on BBC Radio 2 The Organist Entertains and was recently on BBC Radio3 Music Matters. Its music is broadcast regularly and recordings are sold worldwide.

If you visit the Pavilion, you can discover the history of the emblematic building as you explore its hidden areas, from myriad rooms behind the stage to those hidden beneath the building.

Don’t miss this chance to venture behind the footlights at three of Worthing ’s largest entertainment venues.
