PCUK - The Portsmouth Connection

The Portsmouth Connection was a photographic competition held by Noir et Blanc Magazine and Gunwharf Quays which closed on the 15th December, 2009. The brief asked Hampshire’s photographers to sum up Portsmouth’s unique character in a single black and white image. The organisers were both delighted and daunted by the volume of entries.

The Portsmouth Connection was won by an aspiring photographer named Jelena Bavrina. Her beautifully serene image of the Old Portsmouth simultaneously highlights the city’s naval history, dynamic urbanity and seaside-town charm. Jelena has won support to put on a solo show of her own work later in the year.

Pop down to Cafe Rouge, Gunwharf Quays to see an exhibition of the winners' and participants' sterling efforts. With at least one piece from everyone who entered, the show features an excitingly diverse mixture of contrasting styles, techniques and ideas. The city on display is mysterious, dynamic, cosmopolitan and unique.

Come to the Private View at 7PM, January 15, to meet the photographers, enjoy some refreshments and find out who won. Places are limited so please RSVP for the Private View to daniel@nebweb.co.uk The Portsmouth Connection is kindly sponsored by the University of Portsmouth Curator:
