Worthing artist runner-up in national competition

Worthing artist and college lecturer Maggie Tredwell has scooped a runner-up prize at prestigious Artist of the Year award ceremony

Each year Artists and Illustrators magazine run one of the most prestigious open art competitions in the UK, the Artist of the Year award. This year runner-up prize in the landscape category went to local artist Maggie Tredwell, whose award was presented at a ceremony held in Oxford’s O3 Gallery, earlier this month.

Short-listed works were chosen from a selection submitted to the magazine by professional and amateur artists. These were then shown at the Art in Action art fair held in London in July, from which the winners were chosen. Winning works of art are now on display at an exhibition held at the O3 Gallery

Maggie, whose work is fairly prolific within the local art scene, graduated from Northbrook College in 2003 with a first class Honours degree in Fine Art. Today she combines studio practice with her role as college lecturer at Northbrook College. She says “I paint mainly urban landscape, domestic and industrial, exterior and interior, giving equal importance to the painted surface and the illusion of a three dimensional space. It’s fantastic commendation of my work to have it recognised with runner up prize of a national award”.

Maggie's work can be found in private collections, hospitals, schools and offices. A number of her pieces are currently on show and available for purchase at The Gallery @ The Dome, on Marine Parade.
