Agatha Christie radio plays recreated

The Agatha Christie Theatre Company brings three gripping radio plays from the Queen of Crime, read in the style of their original BBC broadcasts, to Worthing's Connaught Theatre.

In Murder on Air, a cast of actors from stage and screen will bring to life all characters from Agatha Christie's Personal Call, Butter in a Lordly Dish and The Yellow Iris featuring Hercule Poirot. They will be led by Susan Penhaligon (star of the film Under Milk Wood and known for her role as Judi Dench's glamorous sister in the BBC comedy A Fine Romance), Roy Marsden (best known as Inspector Dagleish) and Nicky Henson (DS Harry Finlay in A Touch Of Frost and Jack Edwards in Eastenders)

Susan Penhaligon's appearance in Worthing will be particularly emotive as her theatrical debut was as Juliet at the Connaught Theatre. She is now part of the critically acclaimed Agatha Christie Theatre Company which had huge success with its star- studded productions of Worthing favourites The Hollow, The Unexpected Guest and And Then There Were None.

This unusual and engaging new style of play creates an authentic studio setting on stage with live sound effects. The effects will be created by foley artist Alexander Bermange who is responsible for the everyday sound effects in the plays such as doors slamming, tea brewing or a murderer fleeing the scene.

Murder on Air is a unique opportunity to see the actors on a stage that has been stripped of props and costumes. Instead they will wear elegant evening dress, speak into traditional microphones and transform their characters through changes of inflection or accent. Each live performance is interspersed with original 1930s BBC recording and filled with evocative sounds and perfectly created scenarios.

Murder on Air is at the Connaught Theatre, Union Place, Worthing. BN11 1LG from Thursday 15th October - Saturday 17th October.
