Worthing Pier Day
Seaside fun for all the family is promised on Sunday 20th September at Worthing’s annual Pier Day.
For the first time, Worthing Arts Council have taken over the running of the event and are promising a day packed full of live music, walkabout theatre and children’s activities.
Around twenty local clubs, groups and businesses are involved. The End of the Pier International Film Festival will live up to their name, with screenings of Worthing-made films in The Pier nightclub. Artists from the Revolutionary Arts Group including illustrator Michelle Dawson and photographer Joanne Rowlings, will exhibit in the Denton Lounge foyer. There will be a chance to send a limited edition postcard with a Pier postmark or buy a special 'Worthing Pier' badge by artist Dan Thompson..
The Costume Fairy will be face-painting. And the Skelton Cru will give children a chance to paint giant murals on boards.
The Heart of the Warrior will be shown off by its team who will row the Atlantic raising funds for St Barnabas Hospice. Local historian Chris Hare will hold guided tours, looking at Worthing’s heritage.
Tangerine Bar will host a 'Beach Olympics', kitesurfing demonstrations and hold a barbeque.
And there will also be plenty of traditional events, including Punch & Judy, fairground rides, live music stages and buskers and walkabout theatre.
Live music from the Sunny Worthing Arts Group and mosaic making at the Lido, art exhibitions at The Dome and events as part of the Made In Worthing festival including a ukulele jam at Worthing Rowing Club and an infltatable sculpture by Ivan Pope at Splash Point will add a ‘fringe’ to Pier Day.
Worthing Pier Day is organised by Worthing Arts Council, with support from Worthing Borough Council, Worthing Town Centre Initiative and Face Media Group. It takes place on Sunday 20th September, from 12 noon-4pm, and admission to the pier is free.
