On Location Film Festival
A film festival with a difference is set to run in Worthing this Autumn, as the 'On Location' Festival screens films around the town in specific themed venues between September 21st and October 1st.
Five films will be shown in five themed locations, each one tied in with the particular setting or theme of the movie. So cinephiles can enjoy seeing Paul Newman's classic portrayal of a poolroom shyster in 'The Hustler' at a Pool Room in town, or a enjoy a great piece of Bollywood in an Indian restaurant in the town's West End.
The festival is being organised by Worthing Film Club, and the festival director Stefan Sykes said "We thought it would be great to take films out of the usual cinema environment, and use some of the great locations around the town to show films in a new and exciting way, and to enhance the whole experience of watching a movie. We have a great selection of films to appeal to a wide variety of movie goers, from cult horror B-Movies to contemporary rock documentaries & 5-Star British classics. It's also a great opportunity for people to visit places in the town they might not normally venture into, as well as view some fabulous films that wouldn't normally be screened in town."
The festival starts on Monday 21st September with 'Race' (2008) - a contemporary Bollywood film, screened at Chilcha's Indian Restaurant in Monatgue St, and includes a buffet with the film. On Wednesday 23rd cult horror b-movie 'Carnival of Souls' (1962) with it's iconic abandoned seafront sequences is screened at the Pier Nightclub on Worthing Pier. On Friday 25th the festival decamps to Ivy Arch Rehearsal Rooms for the critically acclaimed documentary 'Anvil' (2009) about a rock band's battle against public indifference & old age; on Saturday 26th it's 'The Huster' (1962) with Paul Newman at Slick Willy's Pool Rooms, on 32-34 Marine Parade. The festival ends at St George's Church, off Church Walk on Thursday 1st October with a screening of 'A Matter of Life & Death' (1946) with David Niven battling between Heaven & Earth in the post-war British classic.
Tickets for all events are £6, except for 'The Race' which is £10 including a buffet, and are on sale from The Oxfam Bookshop, Montague Street & Steve's DVDs on Warwick St: and Coast Cafe, Beach Parade, Worthing.
