Artists In Horsham Exhibition

Chalk boulders, bubblewrap, broken skateboards, concrete and objects found in junk-shops are amongst the materials used by artists from artistsandmakers.com in an exhibition at Horsham's The Capitol.

A dozen contemporary artists and makers from across the South will be exhibiting together. They include Katherine Haynes, who uses recycled bubblewrap to make hanging sculptures and other items.

Landscape artist Debbie Zoutewelle paints with chalk and clay as well as more traditional oil paints. She has also produced work using chalk boulders and environmental core samples, and has worked as artist-in-residence on archaeological digs at Stonehenge.

Dan Thompson paints and draws on old skateboards, and inspired by artists like Peter Blake and Joseph Cornell brings together collections of found objects to make work which is about memory, history and nostalgia.

Best known for controversial video art, Nathan Bean has produced a surprisingly delicate sculpture using resin molds and poured concrete.

And other artists use more familiar techniques, including Dean Barwell's hand-printed black and white photographs, portrait paintings by Dan Martin, Michelle Dawson's computer-aided drawings and Tracey Thompson's acrylic painting.

“We bring together a diverse range of artists, united not by techniques or styles,” says the exhibition's curator Dan Thompson, “but by a fizzing energy, fighting spirit and unfettered excitement about contemporary art.”

The exhibition is in the gallery, upstairs at The Capitol, Horsham, from 8th April - 7th May. The Capitol is open daily
