More Awards For Pallant House Gallery's Trophy Cabinet
Chichester's Pallant House Gallery has received two highly commended awards in the Tourism South East ExSellence Awards 2008. Designed to honour excellence, quality and innovation in all sectors of the tourism industry, the Gallery was contending with venues across the South East for awards in the categories ‘Access For All’ and ‘Business Tourism’.
The Tourism ExSEllence Awards are the premier awards for the tourism industry in the South East and are managed by Tourism South East. They cover a broad range of tourism organisations, from small Bed and Breakfast businesses to tourist attractions.
The judges of the ‘Access for All’ category described Pallant House Gallery as an ‘excellent entry’, adding: ‘Considerable thought and effort has gone into specific provision for all visitors. There is not much more they could do to improve on the facilities they offer disabled visitors.’
The work carried out by the architects and the Disability and Access Focus Group have provided for an award- winning, truly accessible building. These have also been combined with pioneering schemes such as Partnerships for Art and Outside In which aim to make the Gallery a community resource for all.
Marc Steene, Head of Education and Outreach at Pallant House Gallery, said of the award; ‘It is extremely gratifying to see the large investment of money, time and creativity that Pallant House Gallery has put into creating an accessible venue and programmes being
recognised.’
The Business Tourism Award is designed to acknowledge the importance of the meetings,
incentives, conferences and exhibitions sectors of the tourism industry. Pallant House Gallery offers flexible accommodation for a wide range of public, corporate and private events ranging from seminars, conferences and meetings to parties, banquets and wedding receptions. The Gallery is unique in being the only venue of its kind in the area to offer such facilities alongside unique works of art on the walls.
Pallant House Gallery Events Co-ordinator Helen Ward commented: ‘We are delighted to receive this award and see the Gallery acknowledged as a leading events and conference venue.’
Since reopening in July 2006 the Gallery has won and been shortlisted for an array of accolades and awards including the largest single arts prize in the UK, the Gulbenkian Prize in 2007, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award for exceptional architectural standards, and the Civic Trust Award for the ‘caring’ and ‘sensitive’ design of the new building alongside the original Grade One listed, Queen Ann townhouse.
