Textile artist Sarah Sherry exhibits new work at Sudbury's Quay Gallery this November.
Sarah Sherry has worked the last 14 years as a Textile designer for Silk Mill Stephen Walters in Sudbury, Suffolk. She studied Art at college in Merseyside then went on to gain a 1st class hons degree in Textile Design specialising in weave at the University of Derby. Now Creative Manager of a busy design studio, she still has time to work on her own creations - having in the past exhibited in Galleries across the country and previously at the Quay Gallery Sudbury.
Sarah describes her work as eclectic claiming her inspiration can
strike at any moment and from the most unusual of sources; the one
theme that transcends all of her work is layering. I like to build a piece of art, whether that is with paint,
fabric or stitches. With each layer you can add interest,' she says, 'and
the observer can discover things slowly about the piece long after its made its first impression.
Her work uses a mixture of media such as collage, machine embroidery
and traditional textile techniques as well as pen, paint and computer
illustration. This combination of traditional and less conventional
techniques gives Sarah her unique style of working, often beginning a
project with an open mind as to its eventual outcome.
She occasionally likes to inject a bit of humour into her pieces of
work, which Sarah says can add life to them and bridge the gap between
it being just a piece of art on the wall to being a more interactive
and sociable picture.
Sarahs work is on display at the Quay Gallery, Quay Theatre, Sudbury,
Suffolk from Sunday 2nd of November until 5th of December. The Private View is on Sunday 2nd November from 12-2pm.
