Never talk about religion or politics, we say. And what about money? Sex? Taboo words? Terrorism? In these security-conscious, politically correct times, it can be difficult to speak and print on sensitive topics. Publisher and editor Kay Green will talk about her experience of these issues as a writer and editor, and ask the audience for their views.

The Unspeakable and the Unprintable debate, starting at 7pm on Friday 5th Sept is just one of the events for readers and writers at the Jenny Lind this week.

There is an exhibition of science fiction and fantasy books and artwork on the afternoons of Thursday 4th and Friday 5th, a workshop investigating Ways into a Writing Career on Tuesday 9th Sept at 2pm, and one on Writing Competitions on Thursday 11th Sept at 7pm.

Local writers are invited to send in their views and experiences of writing competitions: do they help writers, or exploit them? Earlyworks Press will be awarding prizes of books for the best entries, and will pay 5 for any that are used on the website afterwards.

For full details of Books Born in Hastings events at the Jenny Lind, please visit the local events page at Earlyworks Press
