In the last few years, reading and discussion groups have been springing up all over the country. Some are mostly social events, others mostly literary. All are great for finding out about great reads you might otherwise have missed.

Writer and English teacher Kay Green will be leading a discussion and workshop on how to set up and maintain a successful book group on Saturday 30th August at 7pm at the Jenny Lind in Hastings Old Town.

Kay says: The idea is very attractive but a lot of people are shy of joining established groups in case they are too difficult or serious. This is rarely the case people usually start groups to relax, have fun and enjoy a good discussion rather than because they have, or want, a degree in literature. The library, and other organisations such as NewBooks, have lots of resources to help you.

If you would like to hear more, you are invited to the function room at the Jenny Lind at 7pm on Saturday 30th August. The event Grow Your Own Reading Group will run for about an hour and a half. Entry is free, and all comers welcome.

Books Born in Hastings, in conjunction with the Coastal Currents Arts Festival, will be running from 29th August to 21st September. For a full timetable of events, please visit the Local Events page at Earlyworks Press or talk to Alan at the Jenny Lind.
