The stage version of Calendar Girls will premier at Chichester Festival Theatre on 5 September.
The play features Lynda Beliingham, Patricia Hodge, Sin Phillips, Gaynor Faye, Brigit Forysth and Julia Hills as members of the Women's Institute (WI) who create a nude calendar to raise money for charity.
Written by Tim Firth, who co-wrote the screenplay of the 2003
film, the story is based upon true-life events. Calendar Girls follows
the fortunes of a group of extraordinary women, all members of a very
ordinary Yorkshire Womens Institute, who persuade each other to pose
for a charity calendar with a difference.
Calendar Girls will be directed by Hamish McColl, who won an Olivier
Award for writing and performing The Play What I Wrote in the West End.
The production will be designed by Robert Jones, who also designed The
Music Man at Chichester and the current production of The Sound of
Music at the London Palladium. Lighting will be by Malcolm Rippeth and
Sound by John Leonard. Music will be by Steve Parry.
Calendar Girls opens at Chichester Festival Theatre on 5 September and
runs until 27 September.
