From Tibet To Worthing In Artists and Makers Festival

Photos from Tibet, textiles from Devon and watercolours from Brighton join the work of artists from Worthing and Horsham in this year's Artists and Makers Festival open houses and studios.

Twenty venues across Worthing, Horsham, Cowfold and Partridge Green will exhibit work by 75 artists, and there will be a special exhibition at Reflections Nursery, Worthing of work by children aged two to 12 years old. All the venues will open from 2-6pm on Saturady 5th, Sunday 6th, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th July.

Highlights include a topical exhibition of photographs of the people of Tibet by Joanne Rowlings. Rowlings has been worked with acclaimed photographer Steve McCurry, and will be exhibiting at 26 Raleigh Way, Worthing.

The Lightbox Gallery at 103 Elm Grove, Worthing will show work by two photographers, Araceli Lynch and Tracey Peckham.

Between West Worthing and Worthing station, a number of houses will be open. 2 St Dunstan's Road, close to West Worthing Station, and 6 Pavilion Road near Worthing Station, are established houses showing a wide variety of work. In the middle, Thompson Towers, 35 Lanfranc Road will show ceramics by Steyning-based Ben Barker, prints by Brighton artist Alan (Fred) Pipes and bunting and bags made from vintage fabrics by Devon maker Nell Pascoe. There will also be funky and fun clothing for children and adults from the recently revived Clothkits label. Textile arts group Angelico will exhibit two minutes away, at 15 St Botolph's Road.

Nearby 10 Balcombe Avenue will show two popular Brighton Festival artists, Jonny Olsson and Nick Orsborn. And just round the corner from there, 6 Southfarm Cottages on Southfarm Road will exhibit stained glass.

In Worthing town centre, both 5 and 15 Tower Road will be open. There will be mosaics and paintings at The Lido. And Heene Gallery in Heene Road will stage a special Festival exhibition.

And there will be great views from 46 Marine Crescent in Goring, where a group of local artists will exhibit paintings, sculpture and photographs.

Six venues open across Horsham District, including Church Lane House in Plummers Plain and the garden of Oak Cottage, Moatfield Lane, Cowfold where sculpture by Janine Creaye will be on display.

59 Smithbarn, Horsham will show work by two artists, Veronique Cowan-Goessant and Deborah Tmimperley. And a group of artists will exhibit at the Scout HQ, Amberley Road.

2by4 Studios will open their base at the Drill Hall, Denne Road and exhibit mixed media work alongside paintings, sculpture, textiles and jewellery. And a new studios dedicated to sculpture will open in Partridge Green. Sussex Sculpture Studios on the Huffwood Manor Estate will exhibit work by artists and their students.

As well as the popular open houses and studios, the Artists and Makers Festival includes over a hundred artists and makers in a trail of textile arts around Worthing town centre shops and cafes, an exhibition by Worthing and Littlehampton MIND, the annual summer show by Acorn Painting Club and an exhibition of film, photography and installation by the Revolutionary Arts Group.
