A Caravan, A Dolls House and A Very Small Stage for Artists and Makers Festival

An art gallery in a caravan, an evening with a TV 'talking head', music on the smallest stage in the UK and over a hundred artists exhibiting in shops, houses and studios make up this year's Artists and Makers Festival, which runs from 4th-20th July.

The annual arts festival takes place across Worthing and Horsham District, with events kicking off on Friday 4th July, with a free poetry event at Worthing Library at 12 noon.

That evening, Andrew Collins launches the new paperback of 'That's Me In The Corner', a wry look at his life. He has worked as an NME journalist, Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music DJ, film critic for the Radio Times, and Eastenders scriptwriter - but is perhaps best known as a regular 'talking head' on any number of Top 100, Greatest Ever and Britain's Favourite countdowns and documentaries. The event happens at Methvens, South Street, Worthing from 7.30pm.

On Saturday 5th, a 'Words and Pictures' event will see authors and illustrators appearing at Methvens in a programme of signings, talks and readings. Guests include David and Ronda Armitage, the husband and wife team behind the famous 'Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch', and John Higgins, an artist who has worked for 2000AD, Marvel and Dr Who magazine as well as on the classic 'Watchmen'. And Mogzilla - the publisher behind 'Count Milkula' and the 'Spartapuss' series - will be at Toys Will Be Toys, Stamford Square, Worthing.

On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July, the popular artists' open houses and studios open from 2-6pm, with twenty venues exhibiting everything from photography to painting and stained glass to sculpture. Venues open across Worthing and Horsham, including Plummers Plain, Cowfold, and Patridge Green. All venues open again on the 12th and 13th July
And on Sunday 6th July, an art market in Montague Place, Worthing sees the Caravan Gallery visit the town. The project by artists Jan Williams and Chris Teasdale sees a mustard-yellow 1970s caravan transformed into a mobile exhibition space, and a base for a photographic project which records the ordinary details of the UK today.

On Saturday 12th July, an event at Revolutionary Music, 9 Warwick Lane, Worthing sees performers appearing on what is believed to be the smallest stage in the UK - at less than one metre wide. The shop will also host possibly the smallest gallery in the UK, a 1/12th scale building exhibiting miniature work by contemporary artists.

Throughout the Festival, there are exhibitions in shops, cafes and hotels around Worthing; live music, poetry and spoken word events; and exhibitions by groups including the Textile Arts Forum, Worthing & Littlehampton MIND, and Acorn Painting Club.

A free guide to the Artists and Makers Festival, which is organised by the Revolutionary Arts Group, is available from venues across Worthing, Horsham and Brighton, and from Revolutionary Music in Worthing.
