Gormley Sculpture Comes To Chichester

A striking sculpture by one of Britain’s most famous artists is to go on show at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester from Saturday 7 June 2008.

‘Angel of the North’ sculptor Antony Gormley is the artist behind the piece called ‘Trajectory Field III’: a life sized sculpture made from a myriad of steel rods welded together to form a single human form, suspended from the ceiling.
“The decision to display this sculpture in the stairwell of the new wing means visitors will be able to see the work from all angles as they ascend the stairs into the Gallery," Stefan van Raay, Director, said "but it also means that passers-by, who are outside the Gallery, will only have to look up to catch a glance of this striking piece through the large windows adjacent to it. This really is an extraordinary sculpture which fans of Gormley’s work will definitely not want to miss.”

Antony Gormley’s work frequently draws upon the human figure for inspiration. Gormley’s other well known pieces include ‘The Angel of the North’ created in 1995 and situated outside Gateshead, and more recently ‘Event Horizon’, the 27 figures which stood on roof tops and walkways across London last year, as part of the hugely successful retrospective exhibition of his work at the Hayward Gallery on the South Bank.

Trajectory Field III was created in 2002 and has previously been exhibited at Galerie Xavier Hufkens in Brussels, Belgium. The sculpture is on long term loan from the artist and will be on display at Pallant House Gallery from Saturday, 7 June 2008.
