Worthing Seafront Cafe Commission
A new seafront café is looking for an artist to devise a suitable fresco for its old blue shutters.

The Worthing café, COAST, is leading the latest initiative to bring public art to Worthing. The new artwork will be sited just metres away from the acclaimed Walter Jack Studios 'Suncloud', a £70,000 forest of poles with motion-triggered, solar powered LED panels which will be unveiled at Splash Point later this year.

COAST is situated just beyond Splash Point in the 'Esplanade' building on Beach House Green. The much underused, promenade building with its two octagonal towers and modernist chalets, provides the only town centre cafe to offer food and drink on the beach. With new wooden decking on the shingle beach and amazing wind breaks, COAST Café will open for Easter serving illy coffee, tea in china cups and the finest cakes and foccacia sandwiches

Stefan and Nicola Sykes have taken over affairs at the cafe and want to promote the artistic capacity of Worthing by offering their shutters as a canvas. They're asking for artists to put forward an outline proposal by Thursday 20th March.

The commissioned work will be completed soon after, so artists must be ready to go! The winner will be decided on Friday 21st March and will be commissioned to deliver their idea in the following weeks.

The new artwork will be the first in a series of developments, including commissioning sign-writing from a local artist and working with the Revolutionary Arts Group to open a new art gallery featuring new, acclaimed art by local and national artists. It is intended to develop a ‘South Bank’ along the promenade with book stalls, print sellers and crafts makers.
