Jeremy Deller In Conversation
Artist Jeremy Deller will be in conversation with BBC Radio 4 Front Row presenter John Wilson in a special event at the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce).
Looking at his current work – including images from his current exhibition at Aspen Art Museum, USA; recent footage of a visit to India and the current Bat House Project – Deller will comment on the enormous social and environmental challenges of our time.
Collaboration and participation are central to Deller’s work. This includes orchestrated events, films and publications which draw attention to forms of culture on the fringes of the mainstream or reveal hidden histories.
In 2004 he won the prestigious Turner Prize award for his film Memory Bucket documenting his travels and encounters with the land and the people across the state of Texas. Part of the footage shows three million bats flying from a cave which led on to launch a national competition for the design of a bat house at the London Wetlands Centre
Deller is perhaps best known for The Battle of Orgreave, a massive re-enactment of a pivotal clash between miners and Police during the miner's strikes.
Culture in a time of Crisis: Perspectives on Global Challenges takes place on Tuesday 26 February, from 6pm at the RSA, 8 John Adam Street, London WC2N 6EZ
