From Worthing With Love
A Worthing night that mixes live music, performance poetry, comedy and the pub quiz takes a sideways look at love this month. Eclectric Ballroom will feature singer-songwriters, poets and storytellers alongside an off-the-wall quiz - and it's all themed around Valentine's Day.Singer-songwriters Pete Fijalkowski and Kieran Garland will make appearances. And the popular Ross Absel Maurice, inspired by artists as diverse as Jeff Buckley and Radiohead, will make a return to Eclectric Ballroom. Each performer will play one of their own compositions and a cover version, and talk about their choices. Of course, they will all be playing love songs
Anyone wanting to tell a story on the theme of romance will be given an open microphone. Or they can ask compere Ben Salter to tell the tale on their behalf. Ben has previously performed at venues like Brighton's Joogleberry Playhouse and Fringe Bar, and Farringdon venue The Betsey Trotwood.
Beat-style poet Dan Thompson will also perform a specially chosen set, including his own poems alongside some favourite romantic verses. Dan has previously performed in schools, shops and on the street; but is perhaps best known as a performance artist with the Revolutionary Arts Group.
Steve Hampshire, owner of Worthing's music boutique Random Rules, will be compiling a CD, with tracks played throughout the evening. And there will be a Valentine's Weekend Survival Kit given away in a draw.
Eclectric Ballroom takes place in the Cellar Bar, Beechwwod Hall, Wykeham Road, Worthing from 8pm on Friday 15th February. Admission is £1. The event is part of the annual We Love You festival, which sees Worthing's arts community celebrating Valentine's Day.
