The Cinema Where The Audience Choose The Film

You pick the film, we'll provide the cinema and the popcorn - that's the offer from the organisers of Worthing Film Club.

The group was founded in November 2007, by a group of film fans keen to see a wider range of films on show in Worthing. In 2007, the group showed short films during an Artists and Makers exhibition, and Indian film The Chess Players at Worthing's historic Dome. And in early 2008, Worthing Film Club arranged a showing of an early film by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar. The next film, American Splendor, has been chosen by one of the club's members, who will introduce it before a one-off screening at the Dome.
American Splendor is the true story of Harvey Pekar, whose humdrum life changes when he meets legendary comic artist Robert Crumb. Harvey goes on to make his own comic American Splendor a truthful, unsentimental record of his working-class life. First published in 1976, the comic earns Harvey cult fame and eventually leads him to meet Joyce Barber, a partner in a Delaware comic book store who ends ups being Harvey's true soul mate.

Screenings are open to members, who can bring a guest who pays £4. Membership costs just £30 a year, and includes entry into Worthing Film Club evenings every month.

"Worthing residents have always enjoyed a night out at the cinema, from the Edwardian showings at the Dome and the Pavilion to digital screenings today," says club member Stefan Sykes, "and we're showing unusual and arthouse cinema - as well as dusting off some classic films - for an audience that love a great night out."

Worthing Film Club meet at the Dome, Marine Parade, Worthing on Tuesday 12th February, starting at 8.30pm, and the screening of American Splendor takes place as part of the annual We Love You festival.
