Worthing's must unusual night out returns on
Friday 18th January. Eclectric Ballroom is part-cabaret, part-pop quiz, part
60s-style arts lab, and past events have seen everything from
singer-songwriters to short film.
For the first event of 2008, the popular I
Predict a Pop Quiz returns. The off-the-wall pub quiz, where a sense of humour
is just as important as serious music knowledge is hosted by Pete Fijalkowski.
Of course, there may be extra points for pop trivia buffs who remember that
Pete's early 90s band Adorable signed to
Creation records, twice received the NME's 'Single of the Week' accolade, and
have been quoted as influential by bands including Ash and Oasis.
Storytelling made a debut at the last Eclectric
Ballroom in 2007, and will return for the New Year. Anyone with a tale to tell
on the theme of 'being inappropriately dressed' will be given an open
microphone.
On the music front, Mike Bickers of Shiseido Red
will be unveiling some new solo material. And Ade from leftfield folk band The
Golgi Apparatus will be compiling a CD, with tracks played throughout the
evening.
And to round off the event, the audience will be
invited to take part in a Christmas Present Swap Shop. As well as offering a
chance to clear out some unwanted Christmas gifts, everyone who brings a
present to swap will be entered into the draw for a bottle of champagne.
Eclectric Ballroom will be compered by
singer-songwriter Ben Salter, who has previously performed at venues like
Brighton's Joogleberry Playhouse and
Fringe Bar, and Farringdon venue The Betsey Trotwood.
Eclectric Ballroom takes place upstairs at The
Rest, Bath Place, Worthing from 8pm on Friday 18th January. Admission
is £1. More
