Costume Workshops at Worthing Museum & Art Gallery
Does my bum look big enough in this? That's the question students will be asking at three historic costume workshops, taking place at Worthing Museum & Art Gallery this year. From bodices to bustles, and corsets to costume cutting, it's all included.
Friday 13th & Sat 14th July - 2 day workshop 10am – 4pm
Regency Bodice & Sleeve Workshop
£80
Provides a personal bodice and sleeve block for the period 1800 - 1820 which may be adapted to a variety of different styles. The high stomacher front gown of the Regency period offers support without the need of stays or corset and so is the focal point of this course. Information on how to develop a simple stomacher gown skirt to complete a dress is also given.
Friday 21st & Saturday 22 September – 2 day workshop - 10am – 4pm
Corset Cutting
£80
Students will look at examples from the 19th century and examine the changing shapes. You will then measure, draw you own pattern and construct a toile – ready to be laced into at the end!
Friday 16th & Sat 17th Nov - 2 day workshop – 10am – 4pm
Bustles
£70 (students will need to bring their own material or purchase on the day)
Does my bum look big enough in this? The development of bustles during the late 19th century. Learn the sewing techniques involved in constructing a pad and cage bustle researched from museum collections around the country. Dispel the myth of demure Victorian undies with a riot of paisley, patterns and stripes
