If you've been to any summer events in Worthing in the last few years, you'll know the colourful costumes and noisy rhythms of carnival band Celebration Samba. Formed by a small group meeting in a community centre in 2003, Celebration Samba have quickly become a regular feature at events round the town, including appearances at the Durrington Festival, Artists & Makers Festival and the first Worthing Pier Day in 2006. And if you ever watched them and wondered what it felt to be the one banging the drums, now is your chance to find out.
Celebration Samba are holding a have-a-go day in Worthing town centre on Saturday 12th May. Between 11am - 3pm there will be a chance to bang the samba drum, with band leaders Ivan and Janice Mitchell running 'Six Minute Samba' workshops - taking participants with no musical knowledge and teaching them a tune in just six minutes. It's free, and fun for all ages - just turn up and take part.
