Worthings mayor Major Tom Wye surprised artists and guests by visiting open houses during the annual Artists & Makers Festival.
A regular visitor to open houses, Tom joined the queues of people
admiring the exhibited works of creative professionals, expressed his
support and chatted to artists and guests. He was treated to an
exciting mix of paintings, ceramics, sculptures and textiles. The Mayor
expressed his delight at the growing artistic community in Worthing,
and visited a number of houses.
This is the sixth year in a row that the town has hosted open houses as
part of the Artists & Makers Festival. The event sees artists open
their homes, studios and gardens to the public in order to display and
sell their work. The Festival is a showcase for artists across West
Sussex with nearly thirty houses across Worthing and the Horsham
district, and other events this year including theatre, film and a
Textile Arts Trail. The future for the festival looks promising as
visitor numbers grow.
It was great to get recognition when tom visited our house, Belinda
Stephenson, award-winning artist, said, as we have a growing number of
vibrant artists in West Sussex. The Artists and Makers Open Houses are
a fantastic opportunity to show the public who we are and how much
talent there is in the county.
