BBC Blast, the learning project that inspires young people to get creative, is offering 13-19 year olds across the UK the chance to be inspired on the Blast mobile truck, which is taking to the road this summer. The mobile studio will visit 14 locations across the UK over 15 weeks offering digital media and creative experiences. The Blast Truck Tour is a fantastic opportunity for young people with a passion for creativity to learn more about art, dance, music, film, writing or digital creativity. The truck, a dream workshop space crossed with media production studio, will offer creative workshops, taster sessions, one-to-one surgeries and access to state-of-the-art technology, as well as showcasing the work created by young people across BBC platforms. Inspiring 13-19 year olds across the country, the Blast team, supported by local youth organisations, performers and celebrities, are on hand to challenge teenagers to bring creative ideas to life through animation, street dance, film-making, poetry, song writing and music production.
Building young people’s confidence and know-how, the mobile creative studio will offer onboard advice and mentoring sessions for teenagers to present their ideas for feedback from industry professionals and BBC mentors. Visitors to the Blast Truck will also get the chance to record their views and creative messages in the truck diary room for a weekly TV magazine series on youth arts for Blast on BBC Two.
The Blast Truck is part of a larger three-year programme to develop young people’s creativity across the UK. Working in partnership with the Arts Council England, the Prince’s Trust, Connexions and Artswork, the BBC initiative will offer, across three years, a programme of arts activities to young people in Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich and Southampton who are socially and economically disadvantaged, providing opportunities to develop creative skills as well as providing showcasing opportunities.
Laia Gasch, Blast Project Manager, commented: “Young people today have an incredible knowledge of technology, but they are not always given access to explore and experiment with their creativity. The BBC Blast Truck offers great opportunities to access cutting edge technology with professional support available throughout the tour. The work created by young people will be showcased at each event and available via the Blast local and national websites via live web-casts, as well as downloads to mobiles, links with BBC radio and TV, BBC Big Screens and Bluetooth technology.”
