Living With Art in Brighton Basement
Deconstruction/Reconstruction is a groundbreaking Live Art event combining Performance, Art, Dance, Visual Art, Sound Art, and Music, in a challenging and intensive environment.
15 artists will live, work and sleep in The Basement at the Argus Lofts, Brighton for 96 hours, during which they will deconstruct and reconstruct pre-exiting works.
Each artist will initially contribute by submitting an artwork or by performing on the first night. At the start of the event, the existing static works will be displayed in the gallery.
Deconstruction/Reconstruction will create an organic live-art installation that constantly shifts and develops in its form. The space will gradually transform, as new works and new performances will be produced collaboratively, originating a blurring of identity leading to dissolution of authorship and a convergence of the activities.
This experimental live art event will challenge both the artists, and the audience. "This emerging group of artists stress the process over a particular end result, during which raw creative energy is captured within the frame of an art event," say the organisers, " and deconstruction will be followed by reconstruction creating links between the old and the new and a new understanding of the whole."
Visitors are welcome in the afternoon sessions to observe the creative process of transformation of the pieces as well as the displayed static works. In the evening, performances will be presented to the public.
Deconstruction/ reconstruction takes place from 19th-22nd June at The Basement, The Argus Lofts, Kensington Street, Brighton, BN1 4AJ. The event is open 12 – 2.30 pm and 6-8.30pm.
