May's Brighton Lanes Art Market

A popular event for contemporary art fans returns on Saturday 7th May.

Held on the first Saturday of every month, the Brighton Lanes Art Market has proven to be a great place for discovering affordable contemporary art created by the best artists and makers from across Sussex.

Work for sale includes abstract and figurative paintings, limited edition prints, photography, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, textiles and cards by more than 20 artists.  And it's the perfect place to find a unique gift, handmade card, or extra special present for a loved one.

"The Brighton Lanes Art Market proves that art can be affordable all year round," says organiser and artist Caroline Brown "and it's a great opportunity for artists to meet and sell direct to the public in relaxed surroundings."

The Art Market draws on an ever-growing database of artists, and in January the East Sussex-based Art Market organisers teamed up with West Sussex arts organisation RAG.

The May event sees a bumper crop of artists and makers from the group. RAG founder Dan Thompson will exhibit collages and handmade cards. Sheila Guyatt will be selling her illustrative paintings, alongside prints and other work by Sarah Johnson. And feltmaker Joan Kendall will also have work in the market.

The Art Market takes place from 10.30am - 5.30pm on Saturday 7th May at the Friends Meeting House in Ship Street, Brighton. Admission is free, and the Art Market café is open during the day.
