Creative Conference Comes To Town

A Sussex seafront hotel will be the place to find ideas and inspiration when it hosts the first ever Worthing Creative Conference.

Aimed at a diverse group of artists, makers, designers, musicians, writers and small businesses based in and around the town, the conference at the Best Western Berkeley Hotel is organised by arts group RAG, Worthing 1st and Worthing Borough Council.

Alongside a bill of guest speakers, time will be set aside for 'Listening Zones' so everyone attending will have their chance to comment on key issues facing the town's creative community - and all the information gathered will be fed back to the Borough Council.

“We want to bring together artists and boutique shops, musicians and café owners, writers and web designers,” says organiser Dan Thompson, “and create new opportunities for the arts, creative sector and business communities in Worthing to move forward together.”

The Worthing Creative Conference takes place on Friday 18th March 2005 from 2 – 6pm, with refreshments, networking opportunities and - from 5-6pm - a marketplace for local clubs, groups and businesses to promote themselves.

The Best Western Berkeley Hotel is on Marine Parade, Worthing. Admission to the conference is free. Any groups wanting to promote themselves in the marketplace, or anyone wanting an invite to the conference, can contact organiser Dan Thompson from RAG at dan@artistsandmakers.com or on 01903 709471.

A full line-up of speakers and a timetable for the day will be announced.

Thanks to everyone who's responded to the Creative Conference publcity - it looks like being an exciting afternoon with some great opportunities for moving things forward.

The topics we'll be covering in the listening zones are Festivals, Networks, Marketing and Funding.

RAG will also be producing a one-off arts fanzine, which will be distributed at the conference. It features an article by legendary rock journalist, writer and musician Mick Farren.

See you all at the Berkeley next week.

There will be a full review of the conference on this site soon - but until then, many thanks to all who contributed, especially Steve Carroll, Dale Thomson and Alan Edwards. Over 100 people attended, showing that the creative sector is strong and vibrant ... the next stage will be to move everyone forward, together ... so watch this space!
