Twenty years on, a West Sussex art organisation has launched its own version of Live Aid to support the Tsunami Earthquake Appeal.
The team behind RAGs Roundabout are pulling out all the stops for a special event on Saturday 15th January. The fundraiser will bring together musicians, writers and artists for a night of top-quality entertainment at St Matthews, Tarring Road, Worthing. All funds raised will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committees Tsunami Earthquake Appeal and other charities operating in the area.
Already, a number of local businesses have offered their support, and people who cant attend on the night have pledged donations. A team of volunteers will help run the event, and all the professional performers will be appearing free of charge. There will also be a raffle, and local businesses wishing to donate prizes should contact RAG.
This event will bring together the best live entertainment West Sussex has to offer, and show that the county cares about this global tragedy says RAGs Dan Thompson, who has worked in the music industry for over 15 years. Previous successes include bringing stadium rockers Big Country to play a low-key acoustic gig in Worthing, recording at the famous Toe Rag Studios and touring the UK as a DJ with Britpop club Blow Up.
A full line-up for Roundabout will be announced on the website, here, in the next few days. Performance poet Steve Carroll will host the evening. RAG's regular acts The Bamboo Band and Veritas have agreed to perform.
Roundabout takes place at St Matthews Tarring Road, Worthing on Saturday 15th January, and doors open at 7pm. Admission is 5 on the door, with concessions 2.50.
